hahaha it's only a matter of time before any rollerblading site is taken over by the discussion of PANTZ!
the main reason pants ripped so much back in the day was because we were wearing huge hard-capped knee pads under them... two or three falls on those and your jeans are toast. also, most skates had metal buckles, and we wore our jeans over the cuff, so that shredded the cuff area of the jeans pretty quick. the bottoms of the jeans being almost as big as the waist also meant they were constantly dragging/catching even when you weren't skating, so that obviously killed the bottom of the legs.
nowadays most people don't wear pads, or if they do they're capless/undercover style. skates have plastic buckles (or no buckles at all, like xsjado), and lots of people tuck their jeans in or they're just too small to really fit over the cuffs.
i think multiple-layered jeans are kind of silly as the holes are still going to fray and look bad even if they're not all the way through the jean... plus you're adding alot of weight and stiffness. i think the baggier dickies are double-knee'd though.
personally, Levi's 514's are perfect.... pretty cheap, lots of colors, stretchy for no restriction, you can get them lots of places, and you can actually look like an adult when you're skating.
